Jayaweera Memorial Boxing Championships for the 10th time, which was concluded at Mahanama College Auditorium in Colombo yesterday, when they came on top of the competition which saw the participation of over 400 participants.
Meanwhile, Nugawela Central College grabbed the runners up position and Pallebowila Central College, Hingurakgoda, who took part for the first time, won third place. The championships were organized by Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association (SLSBA) with the blessings of the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka.
Host Mahanama College boxer Mihan Fernando won the best boxer award and best loser was won by H.P.P. Kalpage from Sivali College. For the first time two boxers from the North won gold medals. S. Jivanth (49-52 kg) from Hartley College Jaffna and J. Jenson who came from Puthukkudiyiruppu Central College won the gold medal in (60-64 kg) category.
