Ceylon Today exclusively reported on 4th March under the headline ‘”I’m going as I’m frustrated” – Vaas, that Chaminda Vaas is planning to retire from his position after the 2015 World Cup due to frustrations about the prevailing system back then.
Vaas had been offered the new position as Sri Lanka under 19 bowling coach, which he had rejected after the meeting with the officials of the interim committee.
Vaas has further said that he will take a decision about his future following his course in Brisbane while he is planning to conduct a media briefing before his journey to reveal the reasons behind his resignation.
As Vaas described back then, he has not been given a free hand to carry out his duties and further added that he has no intention of serving the country in the future. He had also said that he has received an offer to coach from a foreign country.
“To be very honest, I’m frustrated. There are many things that are happening here. After this (my final tournament), I hope to reveal everything to the press at a future date,” said Vaas during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Vaas served as head of Sri Lanka bowling coach from February 2013 where Sri Lanka fast bowlers delivered to win a Test series in England as well as to drawing a series against Pakistan in UAE. Rumesh Rathnayake was appointed as the fast bowling consultant during the concluded World Cup Tournament.
