Marambe assists Trinity..
Tikiri Marambe, a well known personality in the rugby arena, was seen over here in Kandy helping his old school Trinity College at practices, before the key Bradby game. He was handling the halves combination. An experienced guy on this aspect of the game, he was seen helping out last season too.
Tikiri as he is called by his friends (some call him Tikka), learnt his rugby at Trinity College and Combined Schools, and later played for CR and FC, Air Force and Defence Services. He also led the Air Force and Defence Services, and also a few games at the 1986 Asiad in Hong Kong when regular skipper Hisham Abdeen was injured after the Japan game.. After hanging up his boots, he got into coaching.
During his school days he was a top class scrum half and paired off with Irwin Howie under the leadership of Shafie Jainudeen. He also played under Sam Samarasekara and Y.S. Ping.
Tikiri was one time the Chairman of Selection Committee of the SLRFU, and on and off the field he has given his best for the game of rugby.
