Michael Main join with Srilanka team.
Michael Main has been appointed Sri Lanka’s trainer for a period of two years. The former Hampshire strength and conditioning coach will begin work on June 1, ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka.
“Michael holds a masters degree in strength and conditioning from the University of Teeside, England,” an SLC release said. “He completed his bachelor’s degree from University of Worcester in sports studies and physical education. He had also worked with ECB in their young fast bowlers training programme.”
He will replace current trainer Darshan Weerasinghe, whose contract expires on May 30. Main is understood to have been recommended by head coach Marvan Atapattu.
Main is the second member of support staff to be installed by the new interim committee at SLC, after their appointment of Jeryl Woutersz as team manager. The board is also on the hunt for a long-term bowling coach, following the mutual decision to part ways with Chaminda Vaas in that role. Champaka Ramanayake is the frontrunner for that position for the upcoming home series against Pakistan and India, but there remain questions over his long-term availability.
