Dual records for Dulanjali
D.M.Yamani Dulanjali of Ambagamuwa Central College, Uda Bulathgama went onto break records in both girls’ under-18 200 metres and 400 metres hurdles events, making her name highlighted on the second day of the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Meet which continued at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium yesterday.
Dulanjali had no difficulty in making it to the finals as she ran a record 24.84 seconds at the heats of the under-18 girls 200 metres, erasing the two-year old previous record of 25.27 seconds, held by Rumeshika Kumari Ratnayake of Kegalle Balika Vidyalaya.
In the final, she clocked 24.91 seconds to grab the gold.
Dulanjali had yet another successful run at the final of the under-18 girls 400 metres hurdles when she went onto set a new record of 1 minute 00.92 seconds to renew the record which stood at 1 minute 02.32 seconds, held by Nayomika Gimhani of Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, set during the 2009 championship.
