R Premadasa to get indoor nets, swimming pool

Sports and Tourism Minister Navin Dissanayake ceremonially laid the foundation stone for a new indoor cricket building at the R. Premadasa International cricket venue in Colombo yesterday.

The building complex is to include indoor nets as well as a swimming pool. R Premadasa Stadium in Khettarama, where the national side conducts much of its training, currently has 18 practice pitches, and also houses Sri Lanka’s Max Cricket Academy, but many of these facilities are out of use during the monsoon months.

The new facility will ensure uninterrupted training and rehabilitation programmes of national level and budding cricketers throughout the year.
