Sri Lanka’s youngest racing sensation…….
Sri Lanka’s youngest racing sensation, 13-year old Jaden Gunawardena who is among the Top 20 Asian riders and completed his first round in Sepang Malaysia few weeks back, is getting ready for the second round to be held in Indonesia.
Young Jaden who turned 13 last month says that he would opt to trade in some of the local glory and stay focused on the Asian round. According his proud father, Shane, Jaden did not participate in the Katukurunda meet yesterday as Jaden would be leaving for Indonesia today. However, Jaden’s younger brother Aaron took part in the Katukurunda Tarmac Championship – on behalf of the Gunawardena family.
Shane is happy with his elder son’s performance in Malaysia. Jaden crashed in the first few laps of the first race but then did quite well in the second and finished 13th out of the 19 riders. Shane also says that he has got Jaden a [250 mono] last week, a bike similar to the one he runs the Asian round so that he could practice out here when ever time prevails, However as Jaden needs to stay focused on his studies too and not much or practicing happened after purchasing the new machine.
Besides been handicapped in taking on the professional riders who practice almost every single day, Jaden also finds it hard having to practice with the limitations of tire choices and the availability motorcycle accessories. Jaden’s dad also says that MIHIN Lanka has come forward to support them by providing return air line tickets for the forthcoming round.
Hopefully, Jaden might work his way up in becoming a Brand ambassador for “Mihin Lanka” and “SriLankan” our national carrier.
