Blue Star and Colombo FC eye maiden FA Cup title

Blue Star from Kalutara and Colombo FC will eye their maiden FA Cup title when they battle it out for the Cargills Food City FA Cup, the Sri Lankan version of English FA Cup, at the Sugathadasa Stadium tomorrow evening.

The kick off will be at 7 p.m.

The lads from Kalutara will give their heart and soul in winning the title, having lost to Army in the 2014 finals.

“We were in the same situation last year and were beaten by Army. But we are better prepared this time around and will take the title back home,” said Blue Star skipper Mohamed Rameez

“We know the strengths and weaknesses of Colombo FC well and will do our best to beat them,” he added.

Colombo FC who knocked out the defending champions in the semi-finals with a 4-2 win on penalties will depend on their experienced outfit in their quest for the maiden title.

“This is the first time we have come to a final and we will give our best to win the title,” said skipper Rawmy Mohideen.

“We’ll not underestimate Blue Star but I am confident of beating them,” he added.

A total of 628 clubs from all over Sri Lanka fought for the prestigious cup with over 15,000 registered players playing in the tournament. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 700,000 while the loser will get Rs 500,000.
