Isipathana clinched the inaugural Inter Club U-20 rugby sevens 2015 when they defeated Agoal Rugby Academy by 26 points (4 tries, 3 conversions) to 10 (2 tries) in the cup final played at the Race Course on Sunday. At half time Pathana led 7-5.
Agoal Rugby Academy opened scoring when former Kingswood captain Reeza Raffaideen crossed the whitewash for an unconverted try in the fifth minute of the game to earn five points.
In the 8th minute of the game Pathanian Chamod Fernando scored a try under the post, and place kicker Isuru Kongawatte made no mistake with the conversion, thus adding seven points to take the lead at the half time break.
On resumption of the second half winger Asitha Punchihewa got into the action when he scored his first try in the 2 minute of the game, which was well converted by Isuru Kongawatte. Scoreboard read 12-05 in favour of Pathana.
Reeza Raffaideen scored his second unconverted try in the 4th minute to reduce his team’s pressure, but soon after the kick off the Pathana captain’s converted try gave energized their supporters.
In the latter stage of the game Pathana centre Kushan Indunil scored another easy try under the post to confirm their victory at the inaugural inter club under 20 rugby sevens 2015. Isuru Kongawatte made three conversions while missing two.
