CAN ROYAL REMAIN UNBEATEN;Singer League’ rugby match

Royal College will face stiff opposition from St. Peter’s College when they lock horns in their inter-school ‘Singer League’ rugby match today at St. Peter’s College Ground, Bambalapitiya. Kick off at 4:30 p.m.
Royal go into this match unbeaten so far with victories under their belt against St. Anthony’s Kandy, Science Mt. Lavinia, Dharmaraja Kandy, S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia, Trinity College and Kingswood College Kandy.
From the Royal camp the man to watch is undoubtedly their unsung hero and number eight Supun Warnakulasooriya. Supun has dished out brilliant rugby this season scoring huge number of tries through that fantastic rolling maul. Captain and centre Bhanuka Gamage, Umesh Madushan, Shauket Lahir, Shabith Feroze and that speedster Mahima Gamage all have had a fantastic season. Their entire forwards and the three quarters also combined effectively in enabling them to make this huge impact on their opponents. The man who has done these wonders for Royal College rugby is none other than the mastermind and one of the best, if not the best in the business today, their head coach Sanath Martis.
Peterites on the other hand have had a mixed season, where they have lost to St. Joseph’s 17-10 and lost to Isipathana 20-18. They then began getting on the right track slowly, going on to turn tables on Trinity last week in a sensational come from behind win, being 10 points to 20 down at half time – then winning 30-25.
The players to watch from the Peterite camp are their forwards V. Anjana, Rahal Delpachithra, Maleesha Rajapaksha, Ranith Silva, Shane Gurusinghe and Mark de Silva. Playing from the three-quarter line captain Kevin ‘Kutty’ Dixon is having the season of his life along with Diyath Fernando, Avishka Ranasinghe, Nishon Perera, Harshana Peiris, Avishka Heenpella and Sandesh Jayawickrama. Going by the St. Peter’s performance in the latter stages of the season, it seems like their coach Ben MacDougall has now got the right combination with the assistance of his assistant coaches Angelo Wickramaratne and Shantha Dharmarathne.
